About Us

What is Extemp?
Extemp (Extemporaneous Speaking) is one of the most popular speech events in American high schools and colleges.
Competitors receive a current-events question, spend 30 minutes researching and organizing their ideas, and then deliver a 7-minute speech in English.
Extemp develops much more than English proficiency. It strengthens critical thinking, research skills, logical organization, and confident public speaking-skills that are valuable in school, university, and future careers.

Don't Just Read the News-Think About It.

Every day, something important happens somewhere in the world.
Ask yourself:
Why did it happen?
What do I think?
How might others see it differently?

Extemp encourages you to explore global issues, form your own opinions, and communicate them with confidence.
Learning English becomes meaningful when you use it to understand the world.

Help Build Extemp in Japan

Extemp is still relatively unknown in Japan.
That means you have the opportunity to become one of the very first members of a growing community.

We welcome:

・International students

・Coaches and educators

Let's learn from one another, discuss global issues, and build the future of Extemp in Japan-together.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced Extemper, we'd love to have you join us.

Our Vision

We believe that English is more than just a subject-it's a way to connect with the world.
Through Extemp, we hope to inspire students to think critically, communicate confidently, and engage with global issues.
Our vision is to build a nationwide Extemp community in Japan and create opportunities for international exchange through speech and discussion.
From Japan to the world, let's build the future together.
